"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." (John 14:12 NKJV)
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us." (John 17:20-21 NKJV)
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.... God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.... Those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.
(1 Corinthians 12:13,17-18,22 NKJV)
How could any man do "greater works" than Jesus, God Himself? Jesus limited Himself for a time to do works in human flesh, empowered by the Holy Spirit—just as we are.
Our works are "greater" not only because we are many people, able to go everywhere, and He came as one man in one region of the world. Our works are greater in the strength of our unity with one another. Every member brings to of the body of Jesus Christ a gift otherwise absent.
It is God's design to be dependent on not only Him but one another. In that dependence and in our unity lies the ability to do greater works than Jesus.
Father, how can we begin to understand how greatly You wish to operate through us? How can we begin to be adequate for Your work? Please give us humble hearts that value each and every member of Your body as absolutely necessary.
