Appointed Times

"These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times."
~ Leviticus 23:4 (NKJV)

To everything there is a season,
And a time for every purpose under heaven....
I have seen the burden God has placed
Upon the children of men with which to humble them:
He has made everything beautiful in His time;
He has also set eternity in their hearts—
Though no one can grasp the work God does
From beginning to end.
~ Ecclesiastes 3:1,10-11 (author)

The biblical feasts were not simply placed on the calender of ancient Israel, they actually determined the calendar by which all else in life took place. God set up times of both feasting and fasting in a manner that all life revolved around His appointed times.

I've heard that some people don't believe in praying about the weather, but that the Creator ordains the weather and our place is to adjust to what He sends. I like that. I have prayed, "Lord, if You send more rain could You please spare City Hall during our prayer gathering?" But for the most part I try to simply say, "Lord, please help me be grateful for all You ordain."

Perhaps more than anything else I wrestle with the Lord's appointed times. Yet I do trust that His timing is perfect. My need is not for Him to hurry up and do whatever He's going to do, but for Him to grace me with patience and endurance.

Gracious Father, Your ways are ways of pleasantness, and all Your paths are peace. When Your appointed times are fulfilled, You will bring to pass all You have planned and promised. Please show our mortal hearts mercy and give us patience and faith. Come Lord Jesus!
