Sanctuary

Sanctuary
#encouragement

Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain...
When I thought how to understand this,
It was too painful for me
Until I went into the sanctuary of God ...
I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth
that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
~ Psalms 73:13,16-17,23-26 (NKJV)

How often do we think that doing the right thing doesn't matter?

Do we grow weary in doing good?

Do we think God is taking too long?

Whether or not we are in a church sanctuary, there is always opportunity to enter the presence of God. Because is He continually with us, we are continually with Him. He sees. He knows. He feels our frustration and impatience and weariness.

In turning our minds and hearts to Him, we are reminded that in Heaven and upon Earth, He is all we need, able to fulfill all desire.

Lord, in Your presence we are made whole. You are everything. Please fill our hearts with the praise for You that is fitting in every moment of every day for all eternity.

  3. Aren't we, NT believers, sanctuary of God? If so, then He is always with us and we with all that we are and with all that we do should give glory to Him. We can abide in Him every minute of our life.

  4. To answer your questions, dear Anne:

    1. Sometimes
    2. Sometimes
    3. Yes

*sigh* Convicted. But I do think it's prudent to turn to God to assure that the good I'm doing is the good HE wants me to do. I know the pain of...umm...*suggesting* to God, with every good intention, what might be pleasing to Him by way of service. Talk about a hamster running on a wheel! That will make you "weary of doing good" faster than anything, IMO. It's necessary for me to turn to Him for guidance and confirmation as to where I put my time and energy.

I love that picture, by the way. Now why does that look familiar...??? ;)

  5. Thanks Anne,

He is all we need. So true. How many times will I test this truth before it finally sinks in? :-)

  6. Denise and T. Anne, may it be a conscious, active praise!

Gwen, I like your clarification that we "suggest" things to God. I don't think that's a problem—when we're in His will. (And we aren't always, are we?) He surely delights in such initiative.

Russell, how many truths don't fully sink in this side of Heaven? So we must keep stretching, reaching ...

Natasa, I love that you keep me sharp. While we are the sanctuary of His Spirit, do you also discern the personality of the Father? of the Son? Do you sense the need to actively enter the presence of God, even while we are in His presence? The dichotomy of it all enthralls me.

  7. I like days when I am constantly aware of God's presence. From morning till night whatever I do, I speak with Him about people around me, about my dreams and wishes, about my family, I ask Him things, I just enjoy in His company. But I am just imperfect human being and sometime I allow myself to be absorbed with this world and then I feel disconnected from Him.

  8. Thank you Anne,

"Lord, in Your presence we are made whole."

Help us not to confuse it with your presents.

PS - I love what you've done to the place - it's beautiful around here. And where is that Church ?

    Very Merry Christmas

  9. Natasa, those days when His Spirit overshadows our lives are a treasure—a taste of Heaven. I'm in a season of life when I'm continually aware of His presence, but get fewer opportunities to simply bask in it than what I'd like. I do make it a priority to begin every day there.

Doug, how silly of us on those occasions when we seek contentment in the goodness of His presents, after we've tasted the magnificence of His presence. I'm glad you like the restful winter theme. I'll redecorate again in colors of life when we celebrate the Resurrection.

And the photo? A place I've been often, and to which I had the pleasure of introducing Gwen. If you recall that day in September (when she scared me so badly with her trepidation), after negotiating the cliffs and switchbacks we paused inside this chapel at Camp St. Malo, near Meeker, Colorado. Mt. Meeker looms above this quiet mountain sanctuary—as the presence of the Lord looms above us, embraces us, enfolds us.
