A Psalm of David.
Blessed is he who considers the poor;
The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive,
And he will be blessed on the earth.
(Psalms 41:1-2 NKJV)
Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come. (1 Timothy 6:17-19 NKJV)
[The Lord] is rich to all who call upon Him. (Romans 10:12 NKJV)
King David surely did not anticipate the day he would become a needy fugitive fleeing from his own son. All around us are those hit hard by recession, who only recently basked in prosperity. We do well to always consider the poor, lest circumstances one day also bring us to unexpected poverty.
Those who call upon the Lord are blessed with spiritual riches beyond description. If we consider the poor and share our earthly wealth, how much more should we, who hold the keys to the kingdom’s treasure house, consider the spiritual paupers who surround us?
God Almighty, El Shaddai, thank You to so generously supply for our needs when we look to You. You hold our future in Your hands. Help us to never worry for tomorrow. Enable us to be generous today with all Your wealth entrusted to our care.
