Worship His Majesty

For [YHWH] Most High is awesome [terrifying];
He is a great King over all the earth. ...
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.
(Psalms 47:2,6-7 NKJV)

I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. And one called to another and said:
"Holy, holy, holy is [YHWH] of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!"
And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
And I said: "Woe is me!
For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips,
and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
for my eyes have seen the King, [YHWH] of hosts!"
(Isaiah 6:1-5 ESV)

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty ...
Yours is the kingdom, O LORD,
And You are exalted as head over all.
(1 Chronicles 29:11 NKJV)

In an era which considers it acceptable to appear before the president in flip flops, do we comprehend the incredible honor to stand in the presence of the Almighty King, have Him receive us with favor, and "worship His majesty"?

"Our God is an Awesome God" refers to the Hebrew word yare, which literally means "terrifying," and is often translated "terrible." "Worship" is how we translate shachah, meaning "to prostrate oneself before a king." The exhortation of Psalm 46 to praise (zamar) calls us to "laud with songs and instruments."

Let us praise our King with understanding! Let us truly "Worship His Majesty."

Holy, Holy, Holy are You, Lord God Almighty! Only You are Holy—"there is none beside Thee." Thank You for giving us access to Your presence to praise Your good name. Thank You for Your favor. Please make us worthy to worship You.
