Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. ... Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him. (Psalms 37:3-4,7 NKJV)
And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6 GNB)
How difficult it is to wait on the Lord. Like little children, our hearts ask often, "Are we there yet?" We want waiting times reduced for everything from fast food to search engines that measure task completion time by thousandths of a second—why not also for God’s work in us?
More than we wait on the Lord, He waits for us to make ready for Him. We ask for the desires of our hearts and want them now. He waits for us to first do good, to feed upon His faithfulness and grow in trust, and to make Him our first delight. He tells us to "wait on the Lord" because He knows our long response time requires it.
Good Father, thank You for Your patience with us. You are better than life—better than any pleasure this life offers. How could we not delight ourselves in You? Help us to yield to Your Spirit and Your work in us so our wait may reach its end.
