And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not lay hold of it. (John 1:5)
"And you, child ... will go before the face of the Lord ...
To give knowledge of salvation to His people
By the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God ...
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace."
(Luke 1:76-79 NKJV)
Jesus spoke ... "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (John 8:12 NKJV)
Thoughts on light and darkness: darkness can not extinguish light; if a small light seems insufficient for the darkness, one need only draw near to the light; the part of the earth that lies in darkness is the part turned away from the sun; a completely blind person is not afraid of the darkness because light is irrelevant; light dispels fear of darkness; light always trumps darkness, even when darkness persists.
Jesus is meaningless to those who do not recognize darkness for what it is. Jesus dispels darkness and death and fear for those who are turned toward Him and draw close to Him. There is no darkness in life Jesus cannot overcome.
Light of the World You came down into darkness that we might see. Your glorious light is pure and trustworthy. Please draw our hearts close to You and guide our feet in the way of peace.
