The God Named Fear

"Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed." (Genesis 31:42 NKJV)

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! (James 2:19 NKJV)

After lying on the altar of sacrifice, Isaac knew to fear God and evidently conveyed that fear to his son Jacob. Jacob did not declare his fathers’ God to be his God until he had his own personal encounter with YHWH.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge, and a fertile place for faith to sprout up. And after fear becomes faith and faith becomes perfected love, perfect love casts out fear.

Holy and Almighty God, You are awesome and terrifying, marvelous in all Your ways. Please do not let us fail to fear You until our love for you has been perfected.
