If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. ... For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? (1 Corinthians 7:12-13,16 NKJV)

"So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate. ... Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so." ... His disciples said to Him, "If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry." (Matthew 19:6,8,10 NKJV)

Marriage is a sacred and miraculous creation of God. How else could two so utterly different creatures become one in body and soul? Our nature is to resist the loss of self-identity for the sake of unity, and throw up our hands in futility.

But we must persevere in unity between spouses, for marriage represents all that is sacred and miraculous in our unity as Christ’s bride, and the bride’s unity with her Bridegroom. The power of God makes possible all three impossible unions.

God Almighty, nothing is too difficult for You. All of it is impossible for us without You. We are selfish and prideful. Please make us humble and selfless. Please make us like You. Please make us one.
