Most Powerful Force

"A faithful prayer in the hands of love
is the most powerful force on earth."
~ Doug Spurling

"Nearly all men can stand adversity,
but if you want to test a man's character give him power."
~ Abraham Lincoln

So if the most powerful force on earth were entrusted to you, what would your character prove in your use of it?

If you are Christ's, you indeed hold that power.

Father, fill us with love and faith, then bow us low.

  1. The last six years the Lords been breaking me so completely. I asked why today for the first time. (I'm slow that way). I really feel the answer lies somewhere along the lines of let go, give Him control, be humbled, and yes be very very low.

    Loved the quotes.

  2. I want God to always have the power in my life, He is the driver, I am the passenger.

  3. Anne,
I love your posts, the love of Jesus and God's wisdom shine through you. Keep it up.
When Jesus spoke of the last being first and the first being last, I see prayer in the mix. Those we may think have no usefulness, the shut-ins, the bed ridden, the elderly. They are the ones who can by the power of prayer be redirecting and changing the world. They have the time to invest in the highest calling, the very calling of Christ who ever lives to make intercession for us.

  4. Your use of those two quotations is expert and profound. Thanks for this short gem of a piece, which will stay on my mind for a while.

  5. T. Anne, I spoke on Friday of prayer's "tussling dance ... of bowed physiques." The Bible says that God humbles Himself to observe us. When we are bowed low, he bows near as well.

Denise, how blessed we are when we don't jockey for the driver's seat!

Doug, I'm truly blessed to have you here, and for the opportunity to share your words. And I share your perspective of the infirm. I've often thought that should I ever be counted among them I'll perhaps finally become an undistracted prayer warrior.

Rosslyn, I was actually looking for a different quote by Lincoln when I "stumbled" upon this one. All credit for "expert & profound" definitely goes to the Lord. And thank you for the words, "short gem." I plan to attempt such lighter fare for Saturdays.

  6. God's resurrection power in us.

    IN US.
