Immersed in the Spirit

John also gave testimony by stating ... "He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'The One on whom you see the Spirit coming down, and remaining, He it is who baptizes [immerses] in the Holy Spirit.' This I have seen, and I have become a witness that He is the Son of God." (John 1:32-34 WNT)

Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." So he said, "You have asked a hard thing."
(2 Kings 2:9-10 NKJV)

"It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper [Counselor] will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (John 16:7-8 NKJV)

When the Holy Spirit comes to those who are Christ’s, it is not to rest with us. It is so we may be immersed in the Spirit, that He might live within us in fullness.

When He comes, we want the "Woo-hoo!" experience. His ministry as Helper, Counselor, Comforter is a hard thing, for rejoicing comes via conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment. If His ministry makes us uncomfortable, our nature is to resist Him.

If we wish to be filled with—immersed in—the Spirit, let us quickly yield to all He brings. Let us obey Him immediately, joyfully, thoroughly.

Father in Heaven, You give Your Spirit without measure. You are good and generous and merciful. Please draw our hearts to overcome ourselves and yield to Your Spirit. Please own and fill us.
