Whose Glory?

This is the way of those who are foolish ...
Like sheep they are laid in the grave;
Death shall feed on them ...
their beauty shall be consumed in the grave,
far from their dwelling. ...
when he dies he shall carry nothing away;
His glory shall not descend after him.
Though while he lives he blesses himself
(For men will praise you when you do well for yourself) ...
Psalms 49:13-18 (NKJV)

"You are the light of the world.... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14,16 NKJV)

Who does not want to do well? To be esteemed, to have a good name, to be shown respect? To perhaps be even admired? It is human nature to desire admiration, even if one is shy and shuns the spotlight.

The child who is a citizen of Heaven is a light like the moon in its glory—a mere reflection of the true Light. Whatever our Creator has put in us that is found worthy is given that it may be used to bring glory to Him alone. Our glory will not endure, but all glory brought to God now will one day be waiting to greet us.

You alone are worthy, oh Lord, to receive glory and honor and power. Thank You for the talents, time and treasure You give us. Show us how they are best used. Please keep us humble, that the resulting glory is Yours alone.
