"Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ " . . . Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David!‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!" . . . But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant. (Matthew 21:5,9,15 NKJV)
David's greatest day of celebration was when he brought the Ark of the Covenant—with which God’s glory dwelt—into the gates of Jerusalem. It was marred by the rejection of his wife Michal, who was blinded by pride and did not praise God’s presence. Jesus’ entry was likewise greeted with joy, though Jesus Himself wept with sorrow (Luke 19:41) because the people who should have been closest to God were blinded by pride to God’s presence.
King Jesus, please open our eyes to Your presence. Please let us recognize Your sovereignty in all our circumstances, and greet it with joy. Let us know the things that make for our peace.
