Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. (Matthew 17:1-2 NKJV)
The magnificent view from a high peak is the reward of endurance after an arduous climb. Looking down upon the steep and narrow trail now conquered is satisfying. Jesus brought His inner circle to the mountain top to see His majesty, not exalt in achievement. They were permitted to glimpse a familiar face with full light. They thought they recognized the voice of God until its full power became their undoing. Fellowship with the Almighty cannot be casual.
Almighty God, You are gracious to reveal Yourself to us. Please make each spiritual victory our desire to behold You glorified. Let us not linger upon accomplishment, but humbly remember how low we’ve been.
