[Jesus’] disciples came to him, and he opened his mouth and began to teach them, saying, "How blessed are those who are destitute in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them!" (Matthew 5:1-3 ISV)
A merciful person will overlook the filth and show a homeless beggar mercy, but never envy. Those "just don’t get it" destitute of spirit people who weigh down the world are more invisible or despised than esteemed. Yet if I emulate the life of a spiritual pauper—without my own resource, aware of my utter ignorance, shamelessly begging for crumbs from the King’s table—I receive within me the whole kingdom! My blessing is to be fully satisfied amid spiritual riches.
Most High King, please help me empty out more of Self today, to make room for more of You. Grant me a glimpse inside Your treasure room to help me remember how poor I am apart from You.
