If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10 NKJV)
To confess is to testify of something as true because it is true. To confess is not to make an unfounded claim for personal motive. I confess the Lord Jesus because He is truly Lord; He is my Master, my Owner, my Sovereign; He has won my love, my willing submission, my very life. The New Testament refers to my King as "Lord" over 700 times. It calls Him "Savior" some two dozen times. I cannot see how it is possible—if I am in Christ and have been saved—to know Him as my Savior and not know Him as my Lord. He is surely a more fitting Master of my life than I am.
