O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. (Psalm 6:1-3 NKJV)
There is great comfort in a loving Father’s discipline. Chastening does not feel good in the moment I am pained. Confronting the sin that clings to my flesh shames me. Realizing how weakened I am by pride is necessary. Yet the love with which I am rebuked convicts and cleanses rather than condemns. It humbles without humiliating. It fills me with loving gratitude for the grace of blood that has already covered my guilt — grace which made me a child of the King.
Father, how merciful You are to love Your child too much to spoil me. How precious is Your will for me to receive what is truly best. Thank You for not leaving me as You find me.
