Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel. (1 Corinthians 14:12 NKJV)
Paul takes for granted that his readers are zealous for spiritual gifts. Surely he speaks not only of the church at Corinth, but of all believers. There are many spiritual gifts. Am I zealous for all of them? Or only for the ones that I’m comfortable with? God bestows His gifts to me but not for me. The gift is to be used for others, so that His church may be edified — built up, strengthened. Some days it’s easy to see only my own need, my own schedule, my own agenda.
Lord, thank You for the gifts You’ve given me. Thank You for edifying me when I need it. Please make me willing to edify others even when it’s not convenient.
